There are a couple of discount programs that I’m aware of that allow non-profit clients to receive a discount on their bookkeeping software subscription. This little tip could be a great way to help you secure your first client.
Perhaps you have a cause that is near and dear to your heart. Working for them wouldn’t be work, ya know? It would be like food for your soul, music to your ears, restoring your faith in humanity. OK, maybe that is a bit to much of a task for bookkeeping, but you get the picture.
Is there an organization that you might benefit from your bookkeeping services and where you could simultaneously gain some hands-on experience (note: make sure you actually know the basic framework of accounting principles before you get started, though)?
Here are the steps I’m thinking of:
1) Volunteer to manage their books.
2) Hook them up with a great discount on a great cloud accounting software. Make sure they know how much you are saving them.
3) Rock their world with your bookkeeping skills.
4) Convert them to a paying client after 6 months when they realize the value that you provide.
One such software discount program is called TechSoup. They have ALL SORTS of products available for discounted prices for non-profits, including a host of QuickBooks products. For instance, you can get a YEAR’S worth of QuickBooks Online for just $50. Crazy cheap! Check out the accounting products listed on their website to get the details about their offers.
Another option I am aware of is Xero offers a 25% discount on their subscriptions to qualified non-profit organizations. Check out the details to see if your potential client would qualify.
