The official challenge wrapped up on October 14.  But you can still walk through the process.  Follow these steps below.

  2. You need to email Annie.Arthur @ Gusto dot com and tell her you want to be a Gusto Partner via Kate Johnson’s partner link (this ensures that you are eligible for the accountant referral bonus of $500 if you sign 3 new clients to Gusto in 12 months).
  3. You need to listen to THIS VIDEO INTERVIEW from the first week of the challenge to get the highlights of the certification and what you will learn.  This should answer a lot of your questions.
  4. Begin the Gusto People Advisory Certification after Annie signs you on as an official Gusto Partner. 
  5. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING is that you use your certification to build your business.  To do that, you need to use it in your marketing.  The first “Unit” in the FB group has lots of pinned posts related to marketing.

When I first started my bookkeeping business, I did not think that I would provide payroll services.  That sounded way too scary to me.  And I also thought it would mean I had to follow a very strict schedule which was not what I was looking for in my business.  I wanted a lot of flexibility as to WHEN I worked and, if I had to make sure people get paid, I worried that I would always have to do some action at a certain time every week/month. 

So, I eventually got over my fears because I learned that I could help clients with payroll without “Doing Payroll”.  There are payroll companies that do all the technical work that I did not fully understand and also did not want to do.  As of Sept 2020, I now have 3 clients on Gusto PayrollSo you can do this, too!  I promise.  

Now, there are lots of payroll provider options out there, but I try to keep my “tech stack” as streamlined as possible, so I know that I will always want to steer my clients toward Gusto.  I’ve had such an amazing experience with them.  I’ve needed a LOT of customer service since I’m still somewhat of a rookie.  They have always helped me right away.  I could not be more satisfied with them.

What is the certification?

With Gusto’s first ever People Advisory Certification, you’ll learn to combine your financial expertise with Gusto’s people platform to support clients and their teams — and grow your accounting and bookkeeping firm too. Become Certified to gain the confidence to offer people-focused guidance when it matters most.

What are the cert details?

To become People Advisor Certified, you’ll need to complete three comprehensive chapters on payroll, benefits, and HR. In addition, you’ll learn how to help clients protect their businesses and teams, discover workflow efficiencies, and strengthen employer-employee relationships. 

The certification modules (15 in total) must be completed in order. Before starting a new chapter, you must complete a 10-question quiz and achieve a passing score of 80%. To complete the course, you must view all modules (12 in total) and pass the quizzes on payroll, benefits, and HR (3 in total). 

Once you get certified, you’ll get an awesome badge which can be used on your website, email signature, and marketing collateral. Also, you’ll be given a certificate of completion to be framed and hung at the office.

What will you learn?

By becoming People Advisor Certified, you’ll: 

  1. Build domain expertise on payroll, benefits, and HR and understand compliance fundamentals 
  2. Become an expert on Gusto’s people platform and discover workflow efficiencies for your clients and your firm 
  3. Learn people advisory frameworks that you can apply to guide clients on building a great place to work

How do you get started?

Certification is free to all Gusto Partners, so at a minimum you’ll need to be a Gusto Partner to access Gusto Learn through your accountant dashboard. 

  • Step 1: Join our study group in our new Facebook Group to get started. In the new group, you’ll have access to more details and information about starting your certification journey.
  • Step 2: If you are an existing Gusto Partner, great! Just login to your Gusto Pro and start your certification journey. On the main “Dashboard”, you’ll see a Gusto Learn tile on the right hand side, click “Get certified” to start.
  • Step 3: If you are NOT a Gusto Partner, don’t sweat it! My Gusto account rep Annie Arthur (who is amazing) will provide you VIP treatment in having you join Gusto’s partner program (which is free) and get your accountant dashboard ready for People Advisory Certification. What is our certification journey timeline?

We will provide more details in the new study facebook group, but at a high-level here is our timeline. 

  • 09/21/20: The Certification Study Facebook Group opens up for you to participate in. More details will appear in the new group.
  • 09/23/20: A Facebook Live event at 12PM PT / 3PM ET with myself, Annie Arthur, and Jaclyn Anku of Gusto to answer all your initial questions on how to get started.
  • 09/23/20: Start your People Advisor Certification journey! If you need to sign up as a new Gusto Partner, reach out to annie.arthur@gusto.com 
  • 09/30/20: A Facebook Live event at 12PM PT / 3PM ET with myself, Annie Arthur, and Jaclyn Anku of Gusto to discuss the group’s journey and answer general Q&A.
